Nolan, S., Baird, K., McInnes, R. J. (2022). What strategies facilitate & support the successful transition of newly qualified midwives into practice: An integrative literature review. Nurse Education Today, 118, 1-9. https://doi.org/10.1016/j.nedt.2022.105497
Level of Evidence 4
The purpose of the article is to review articles that discuss strategies that assist new midwives to transition to competent practitioners. The authors work in healthcare or academia with a focus on maternal care. No bias is apparent in the article. Multiple types of research were reviewed, and several strategies were identified to be supportive of the transition. Some of these included mentorship/preceptorship, smaller teams, continuity of care, online support, and planned rotations. However, the way maternity care is provided impacts the success of the programs.
