Ten to twelve pages describing the Arkansas caste system. We will first learn the outlines of the caste system of India, and then
use it as a template for discussing the social hierarchy of Arkansas. Caste will serve as a replacement category for analyzing race and class. You will gather material throughout the semester from the regular lectures and reading assignments. Your paper must also include original research in Arkansas newspapers. You will hand in an outline of your paper with a list of sources in advance. Papers must incorporate material from lecture, readings, and Arkansas newspapers. Does Arkansas have a caste system? How you answer the question is up to you — I want to leave plenty of room for your creativity. The paper should include citations for material that you find. You can use any citation format, just be consistent. It is fine to cite lecture and textbook pages.
